The client agrees to hold Bookmobile harmless for all liability, damages, and attorney fees that may be incurred in any legal action connected with copyright infringement involving the work produced or provided. The client also guarantees that the work does not contain content that is libelous or that threatens anyone’s right to privacy or other personal or economic rights. If there is legal action against Bookmobile due to the product’s content, the client will defend Bookmobile in all legal actions as well as cover any legal expenses.

File Management and Archiving: Bookmobile archives all electronic material for a period of 5 years at no charge. However, Bookmobile cannot guarantee that these archived files can be retrieved for future use due to computer system and application updates that are out of Bookmobile’s control. Customers should always keep a copy of their original files. Bookmobile’s archived files may be retrieved at the request of the client, though additional fees may apply.

Termination: Bookmobile reserves the right to reject any order, without liability or explanation. If the client cancels a project, they are responsible for any incurred fees including, but not limited to, production time, materials for printing, and management time.

DESIGN & TYPESETTING

Scheduling: Schedule estimates given are not guaranteed. Schedule delays may occur due to the client not meeting deadlines and unforeseen production issues.

Original Client Files: Bookmobile recommends working from the most complete and error-free version of the manuscript as possible. Bookmobile does not offer editing or proofreading services.

Hourly Fees: Hourly fees are based upon the actual amount of time spent. Bookmobile recommends working from a thoroughly proofread manuscript to reduce the amount of corrections needed after first page proofs. Time estimates are based on a moderate amount of work.

Corrections: Any editorial changes made by the client after original files are submitted will incur additional fees. Any editorial and design changes made by the client after 1st page proofs are set and provided will incur additional fees.

Spec Changes: Any changes made to specifications (page count, trim size, etc.) will change pricing.

DIGITAL AND OFFSET PRINTING

Scheduling: Schedule estimates given are not guaranteed. Schedule delays may occur due to the client not meeting deadlines, material delays, and unforeseen production/shipping delays.

Spec Changes: Any changes made to specifications (page count, trim size, etc.) will change pricing.

Corrections: Any changes made by the client after final, print-ready files are submitted will incur additional fees.

Type: If black text is set up as a CMYK or RGB mix of black, instead of 100% K (black), registration issues may occur when printing.

Color: Color proofs are meant to check color-critical images and type. Color variation can occur on press per industry standard, this includes when a title reprints.

Images: All images should be at least 300 dpi at the size they’re placed in the book. If images are low quality and/or under 300 dpi, they might appear pixelated / distorted when printed.

Gutter Margin: If there is an image printing across a spread, some of the image might disappear into the gutter, depending on the project’s specs. Bookmobile recommends keeping all important parts of the image outside of the inside margin area to avoid this.

Shift Tolerance: Per industry standard, books may shift up to 1/16” (.0625”) during the manufacturing process, this includes both the interior and cover of the book. This should be considered when elements are sitting close to spine and trim edges as well as when the client is making design choices.

Materials: Bookmobile recommends seeing samples / swatches of specialty materials such as Rainbow papers and Allure cloth if the client is hoping to match a specific color. Unavoidable color variation can still occur depending on the batch of materials used.

Cover Lamination/Materials: Covers with matte lamination are more susceptible to scuffing. Covers printed on uncoated cover stocks or covers without lamination are less durable and more susceptible to scuffing.

Freight: For a freight estimate, please provide shipping address and indicate whether address is residential or business and if there is a loading dock. If there isn’t a line for freight/shipping on the quote, it is not included in the pricing. Changes made to shipping addresses after the books have shipped may incur rerouting fees from the carrier. It is important to check the shipment immediately and note issues, such as missing or damaged books, before signing for the shipment. The printer will not be able to assist with shipping credits unless the issue is noted when the books are signed for, i.e. “accepting the shipment with damage”.

Over/Underruns: Per industry standards, the printer reserves the right to over- or under-run by 5%–10% and charge or credit accordingly at the per unit rate.

Design Copy: When Bookmobile’s design department works on a printing project, Bookmobile keeps one copy of the finished book on hand for our records. This helps with future orders, so Bookmobile has a reference point for future reprints and corrections.

Quality of Printing and Binding: The printer takes all measures to ensure the end product is within industry standards for quality specifications. There is no such thing as a “perfect” book when it comes to manufacturing and shift tolerance, color variation, ink spots, roller marks, image ghosting, variation in foil stamping and embossing, wavy pages due to humidity variation, etc., are all common minor flaws that can occur during book production. In almost all cases, these minor flaws go unnoticed by the general public and do not affect the readability or reading experience of the end consumer. If the flaws fall within industry standard, the printer will not agree to a credit or reprint at their cost. Errors that may warrant a credit or reprint include missing pages, missing images, and incorrect page order.

SPECIFIC TO DIGITAL PRINTING

For titles printed at Bookmobile, please also refer to the Bookmobile Printing Terms & Conditions.

SPECIFIC TO OFFSET PRINTING

Original Client Files: Bookmobile recommends working from the most complete and error-free version of the files as possible. Bookmobile does not offer editing or proofreading services.

File Checks: While Bookmobile’s offset file check service is thorough, with the aim of flagging pre-press concerns before files are sent to the printer, it’s possible the printer will notice additional pre-press concerns after they’ve reviewed the files on their end. Additional charges will apply if changes are required after the files have been sent to the printer.

Components for Approval: F&Gs and finished covers sent for approval before books are bound are hand-trimmed and do not necessarily represent how the finished books will be trimmed.Refunds/Returns: Due to the nature of the product, all sales are final and no returns can be made once the order is processed and/or shipped. Any claims for production related defects and damages must be made in writing within five (5) normal operating business days after receipt of the merchandise. It is at the discretion of the offset printer whether or not a credit is issued for the claim.

SPECIFIC TO OFFSET PRINT MANAGEMENT ONLY CLIENTS

Design Choices: Bookmobile will not be held accountable for dissatisfaction of design choices made by an outside designer with regards to the final print product. Bookmobile may flag technical issues with the client’s files during the file check, but interior and cover design is subjective. The client should work closely with their designer to be sure their choices will translate well to the printed book form.

EBOOK CONVERSION

Scheduling: Schedule estimates given are not guaranteed. Schedule delays may occur due to the client not meeting deadlines and unforeseen production/distribution delays.

Original Client Files: The eBook conversion requires a hi-res PDF (client provided) and a 300 dpi RGB image that is at least 2560 pixels high (Bookmobile can optimize). Bookmobile recommends working from the most complete and error-free version of the manuscript as possible. Bookmobile does not offer editing of the original manuscript or proofreading of the eBook.

Hourly Fees: Hourly fees are based upon the actual amount of time spent. Bookmobile recommends working from a thoroughly proofread manuscript to reduce the amount of corrections needed after first eBook proofs. Time estimates are based on a moderate amount of work.

Corrections: Any editorial changes made by the client after original files are submitted will incur additional fees. Any editorial and layout changes made by the client after 1st eBook proofs are set and provided will incur additional fees.

Spec Changes: Any changes made to specifications (page count, complexity, etc.) will change pricing.

Ebook formatting: Bookmobile provides reflowable EPUB3 files. Ebooks are created using a standard serif font, as readers have control over their own font settings on most devices/platforms. Accessibility is prioritized, and thus alt text is required for all non-decorative images. Reflowable EPUB files will never look the exact same as the original manuscript. Basic formatting elements (i.e. chapter/paragraph breaks, excerpts, bold/italic text) are maintained, and design elements (i.e. complex poetry indents/leading, dingbats) are replicated to the best of the EPUB’s ability.

ISBN: Ebooks are their own product and thus require their own ISBN. Bookmobile requires the eBook ISBN before the conversion begins.

For eBook distribution information and agreements, please refer to the signed eBook Distribution contract.
